Thailand

Thailand, or as its affectionately known as, "The Land of Smiles" because of the genuinely kind people that inhabit it, is centrally located in South East Asia. It's no surprise that Thailand has made the top 10 lists of Travel magazines, for being one of the most hospitable countries for foreigners to visit.

Facts

Thailand consists of a population of 62 million1 people made up of various ethnicities in addition to Thai including: Chinese, Malays, Cambodian, and Burmese people1.

Climate

The climate in Thailand is primarily tropical with three main seasons. The Hot and Dry(avg. Temp 34 degrees Celsius and 75% humidity), from February to May; the Rainy season from June to October (avg. temp 29 degrees Celsius and 87% humidity); and the Cool season from November to January (avg. Temp 32 degrees Celsius to below 20 degrees Celsius with a drop in humidity)1.

What to do?

There are various activities for visitors to enjoy in Thailand. The obvious one is visiting the islands in southern Thailand (the main city know as Phuket). Here one can basically lie on the beach and guzzle down bottles of Singha (the local beer) to their hearts content or, for the more active, scuba dive through the maze of beautiful coral reefs. For the courageous traveler, you can actually swim with the sharks off the cozy little island known as Kho Phi Phi.

There are many islands to choose from and one to suit every lifestyle. For example; if you want all the comforts of home you can stay in a five star hotel and if you want to enjoy the nightlife, Koh Samui will serve those needs and more. On the other hand, if you are looking for a tranquil, peaceful place where time virtually stands still and you can relax in a Bungalow and enjoy the simple life, then Koh Chang is the place for you.

Another activity to be enjoyed is shopping, and there isn't a better place to do it in then Bangkok where one can literally shop until they drop. From the various markets on Silom Rd. and Sukuhmvit Rd. one can buy anything from computers to cockroaches. In addition to the countless markets that exist in Bangkok there are several shopping malls as well. The shopping malls located in Siam square offer everything you can possibly think of. There are also malls that specialize in electronics and other goods.

If Trekking is what you want to do, then Chiang Mai is the place to do it. Here, you can visit any tourist office and set themselves on a Trekking adventure instantly.

Chiang Mai is situated in the North of Thailand. This is a mountainous region. By going on a trekking adventure, you can visit the beautiful landscapes where beautiful waterfalls, wildlife, and hill tribes that inhabit this region can be seen and experienced.

There are various way to trek this region. The obvious would be by foot. Other ways include by boat, bicycle, and for the courageous by Elephant. Most treks are group based. Although, it's possible to set up an individual or family tour if needed.
